One of the most exciting things about the Steer Graduate Scheme is that there is no set career path – you have the opportunity to shape your own career from day one.

In my first year at Steer, I worked on a number of projects, some large and some small but all very interesting! One of the first projects I worked on was to help model operating costs for a rail service in the North of England. This project sparked an immediate interest in me and I was able to further develop my experience by working on similar projects, leading to cost modelling now being one of my specialisms within the Rail team.

As well as on-the-job learning, the Graduate Scheme offers a great training course programme to help develop your professional and soft skills. One of the courses I found really useful was presentation training, which was valuable in preparing me for my first client presentation. As part of the programme, there are also introductory seminars for the different markets Steer works in. These seminars help you with getting to know the business better and can also help to identify any areas you are interested in working in.

Another great thing about Steer is the people. My colleagues have always been approachable and supportive and willing to spare their own time to help me understand the work I’m doing and where it fits into the overall project.
