SDG acquires transportation planning practice of Charles River Associates

Steer Davies Gleave is pleased to announce the acquisition of the former transportation planning practice of Charles River Associates (CRA International), a highly respected global consulting firm with headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts. Known for innovative and conventional travel demand and revenue forecasting, CRA has established a long record of successful projects, including demand, revenue, planning and policy studies for rail, urban transit and aviation modes as well as for roads, tunnels and bridges.#The acquisition strengthens Steer Davies Gleave’s presence and growing portfolio of work in North America, and will enable the company to deliver substantial projects in the US and Canada. Led by Jon Bottom (pictured), the team acquired from CRA will collaborate with our New York and Vancouver offices to work across the region.

The combined experience resulting from this acquisition is impressive and extensive, including support to the Trans Texas Corridor bid, research into the economic impacts of transit investment, revenue analysis of the Las Vegas monorail, development of Sacramento’s 30-year Transit Master Plan, contribution to the preparation of urban and regional transportation plans including the Atlanta Comprehensive Transportation Plan, development of evaluation techniques and business cases for transit agencies, traffic and revenue studies of New Jersey’s toll roads, studies and reviews of proposed high speed rail projects, and analyses of PPP policy issues and projects for local and Federal agencies, which include analyses for the USDOT and the Austin and Houston-Galveston areas, to name only a few.

Jon Bottom, the leader of SDG’s new team in Boston, said: “This is an important and exciting transition for the transportation planning practice. We look forward to opportunities to grow the business and our professional careers in our new home at Steer Davies Gleave, where we believe CRA's long-established reputation for high quality and unbiased analysis will be maintained.”

Steer Davies Gleave’s Chief Executive Stephen Crouch said, "We are delighted to welcome Jon Bottom and team to Steer Davies Gleave. We look forward to building on the reputation and range of work they have established over many years. Our respective strengths complement each other perfectly, and enable us to offer an expanded range of services to our transportation clients. As a leading independent transportation consultancy with offices across Europe, Latin America and in the Middle East, our focus in the next 18 months is to bring our range and depth of experience across the transportation sector to challenges faced by clients in the US and Canada."
