Steer carried out a market sounding exercise to support Tper (Bologna and Ferrara public transport operator) in developing the preferred procurement approach for renewing part of its fleet with new hydrogen buses.
The study was conducted in two parts:
- Market sounding with manufacturers of both hydrogen bus and refuelling infrastructures to understand the current market offer and its evolution in the short-medium term, lessons learned elsewhere, potential constraints, etc.
- High-level feasibility assessment based on the information collected during interviews with the main bus/refuelling infrastructure providers and also including supplemental best practices and external research. Our support included assessing the routes to be operated with H2 buses, the total cost of ownership compared to e-Bus and CNG/LNG buses, constraints at existing depots, etc.
